Derwent Brass Band and Southwell Choral Society to perform joint concert with special compositions at Southwell Minster
An award-winning brass band and choral society are to join forces for a double musical treat.
The Derwent Brass Band will come together with Southwell Choral Society for a joint concert in Southwell Minster on Saturday, November 15 — in what promises to be a night to remember for fans of brass band music and choral singing alike.
The event will feature the first UK performance of a special arrangement of the much loved Faure's Requiem for brass band, soloists and four part chorus.
But that won’t be the only special composition for audiences to enjoy, as Simon Haw MBE agreed to orchestrate his composition of the Royal British Legion's official song "I'll Remember" for brass band and chorus especially for this concert.
Mr Haw composed the piece for this year's VE and VJ 80 commemorations, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe and Japan, and the Minster concert will see it receive its premiere performance.
Derwent brass and Southwell Choral Society are “delighted and honoured” by his agreement.
Tickets are £10 each, with one under 16 free with an accompanying adult, and are available from choral society members or the Cathedral Shop in Southwell.
