Lincoln Cathedral hosts a concert organised by a Newark-based charity on Thursday, May 24, to mark the centenary of the RAF.

It will feature The Band of the Royal Air Force College, under the direction of the RAF principal director of music, Wing Commander Piers Morrell, and the director of music, Squadron Leader Richard Murray.

Television personality Carol Vorderman — honorary ambassador for the Air Cadets — is the compere.

The concert, which has sold-out, has been organised by and to raise money for Service charity, the Royal Air Force Music Charitable Trust.

Founder and honorary administrator of the trust Malcolm Goodman said: "As 2018 not only represents 100 years since the end of the first world war and the centenary of the Royal Air Force, but also the 15th anniversary of the RAF Music Charitable Trust itself, it is an honour for the charity to have been invited to organise this event as part of the ‘RAF100’ calendar of events.

"Indeed, as a Gulf War veteran, I’m sure the magnificent RAF landmark venue of Lincoln Cathedral in what is often described as ‘RAF Lincolnshire’, will ensure the concert will be a memorable occasion for all, as we reflect on the past and look towards the future."

The concert will feature a selection of music combined with historic and more recent RAF video imagery to Commemorate, Celebrate and Inspire.

The programme will also honour second world war and other Royal Air Force veterans who will join the audience for the evening, along with many still serving in the RAF around the world.

It will be introduced by the president of the trust, Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon, and include more than 60 young Air Cadets.
