Christmas memories

At Thoresby Gallery, near Ollerton, a new exhibition focuses on the theme of Christmas past and present.

The nostalgic scene of Christmas gone by is represented in a group of paintings from the venue’s permanent collection by Marie Louise Pierrepont.

They depict seasonal snowy landscapes and winter dining during the first part of the 20th Century.

Christmas memories are evoked not only by the subject of the paintings, but also through a display of local photographs and stories and the opportunity to handle a range of kitchen ephemera.

There is a chance to have a go at making free vintage decorations for the tree.

There are hand-made gifts by local artists on show to accompany the exhibition.

The collections manager at Thoresby, Caroline Hughes, said: “We have a rich collection of paintings by Marie-Louise Pierrepont, many of which have a local theme.

“In this free exhibition we want to give everyone the opportunity to experience them and value their feedback and stories.

“We are also committed to providing a space for local artists to exhibit their work and this exhibition is a great eclectic mix of heritage and local art.”

Memories At Christmas runs until December 31.
