Southwell Music Festival will return in 2021after fundraising target reached

A music festival will return next year after meeting its fundraising goal.

After the committee made the decision to cancel the 2020 Southwell Music Festival, a fundraiser to secure the festival's future was launched.

A goal of £5,000 was set and, as the Advertiser went to print, more than £5,200 had been raised.

Marcus Farnsworth, founder and artistic director, said: "The income for the festival comes primarily from ticket sales as well as our Festival Friends scheme, sponsorship and private philanthropic support.

"Although we will not incur the financial costs of running the festival this year, there remain annual costs that need to be met, to keep the festival running into 2021 and beyond.

"It is vital that we continue our fundraising activities throughout the coming year, as pressure on public funding next year is likely to grow."

The festival also announced its application to the Arts Council England’s Emergency Funding was successful.

That funding will go towards developing the future of the festival.
