Gate To Southwell and Southwell Music Festival receive emergency funding from Arts Council England

TWO festivals forced to cancel this year's events because of coronavirus have received emergency funding from Arts Council England.

The Gate To Southwell Festival was due to take place in June and Southwell Music Festival in August.

Both attract thousands of visitors and feature local, national and international musicians.

After the cancellations, organisers launched fundraising campaigns to help protect the festivals going forward. Both are already planning to return in 2021.

Gate To Southwell will receive £14,346 from the Arts Council emergency fund, which aims to help those hard-hit by covid-19.

In addition, Southwell Music Festival will receive £27,000.

In a page on its website, Southwell Music Festival said: "This funding will go some way towards covering these costs and developing the future of the festival.

"We would like to publicly thank Arts Council England for this support, knowing that hard decisions have needed to be made at what is an uncertain time for the arts and cultural sector."

Arts Council England gave nearly £50,000 to individuals and organisations in Newark and Sherwood in the latest round of emergency funding.
