Exhibition gives feeling of space
Painter Christopher Paris returns to Newark’s Millgate Museum with a new exhibition and a new venture.
This time he has teamed up with sculptor Richard Thornton to present The Feeling Of Space.
Artwork and sculptures will share the space at the Mezzanine Gallery from Saturday, August 13, until October 2.
Christopher, a contemporary landscape artist from South Scarle, paints only British landscapes, mainly in Lincolnshire.
He said: “I have always aimed to sacrifice any leaning towards creating a good, or attractive painting, for the sake of recording what I see.
“I always aim to feature a distinct lack of drama in my work, as I feel most people have enough drama in their real lives and this has a desensitising effect.”
Richard, from the Lincoln area, is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
He has designed, manufactured and installed more than 30 large-scale architectural and landmark sculptures for clients including Asda, the University of Bradford, Cardiff Bay Arts Trust, Suffolk County Council and BioCity Nottingham.
He constructs his sculptures in stainless steel and glass — materials of surface and edge that come alive with light and reflection.
Other exhibitions at the museum include Make-Believe Two by Carol Easton in the ABC Gallery, and art and graphic works by Robin Smith in the Stage Two Gallery and Meeting Room.
