Explosion of colour on display
The fourth exhibition in the Geometrics series by artist Ann McLaren Hodgson is as bright, bold and colourful as ever.
Geometrics 4 in the Mezzanine Gallery at Millgate Museum, Newark, features 29 pieces by Ann, from North Muskham, who paints while listening to music.
This time, as well as using gold ink to bring her paintings to life like a visual concert, some feature silver ink and white lines. They are priced from £195.
The programme includes a brief synopsis of each painting to help viewers hear the music.
Highlights include Happy Birthday Mr Chopin. The piece features 200 candles as 2010 sees the celebration of 200 years since the birth of Chopin, and 39 gold spots representing each year of his life.
Trio is a delightful piece of work, played in the past by violinist Ann. Each of the main elements are repeated three times.
Other pieces I like are Lady In Waiting, painted to Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Tea Dance, which was painted to Perfidia by Dominguez, I Spy, inspired by Joe Satriani’s The Forgotten, and Drink Hic song — the Drinking Song from Verdi’s La Traviata.
The exhibition moves to The Buttermarket, Newark, from October 8 to 30 — DAB.
