Festival tickets to go on sale

Tickets for next year’s Gate to Southwell Folk Festival will go on sale just before Christmas, with a line-up already extended to include the all-Scottish big night combination of Dougie MacLean and Breabach.

The festival runs from June 1 to 4, next to the town’s Workhouse, to coincide with the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

Tickets will be available through the festival website and by post, at PO Box 9149, Newark, NG24 9DZ.

They will be available at ticket outlets from January.

MacLean is one of Scotland’s most popular singer-songwriters, guitarists and violinists. His songs, such as Caledonia and The Gael, have been recorded by hundreds of artists around the world.

Breabach are one of Scotland’s most successful folk bands of recent times, with a powerful and expansive sound.

Their combination of twin bagpipes, flute and fiddle give them a powerhouse sound that fuses Scottish tradition and a rocky, foot-tapping quality.

There will be three marquees offering virtually non-stop music, plus children’s entertainment, a real ale festival and music and dance throughout the town.

Top performers lined-up for the festival include Martyn Joseph, Martin Carthy’s brass ensemble Brass Monkey, and Irish folk dance band Beoga.

Also performing will be Le Vent Du Nord, one of Canada’s fastest-rising traditional dance bands, and multi-award winner Karine Polwart, from Scotland.

There will be performances from Jon Boden and the Remnant Kings, the Fay Hield Trio, and rising star Lucy Ward — twice nominated for next year’s BBC Radio 2 folk awards.
