Folk duo’s Barn date for hospice

By NewarkAdvertiser Reporter

A POST Royal Wedding treat is provided at The HopBarn, Southwell, with the visit of folk duo Gilmore and Roberts on Saturday.

The gig, organised by TrueBlue Music, is raising money for Beaumond House Community Hospice, Newark.

The duo are described as ‘head and shoulders above their contemporaries’ with 12 years of musicianship under their belts.

Gilmore and Roberts combine award-winning song-writing with trademark harmonies to create a powerful, enthralling sound.

Katriona Gilmore provides the lead vocals and fiddle-playing while Jamie Roberts — Katriona’s younger brother — provides the lap-picking guitar and complementary vocals.

They cite their influences as The Albion Band, Nancy Kerr, Alison Krauss and Union Station.

With song titles like Louis Was A Boxer, Scarecrow, Silver Screen and Stumble On The Seam, story-telling is an important aspect of their song-writing.

Tickets are priced at £12 and are available from Vince on 07796 888573.

There is a licensed bar and, because it is a special royal wedding occasion, there will be some themed refreshments.
