The full line-up has been completed for this year’s Gate To Southwell Folk Festival.

It takes place from June 11-13, held next to the town’s workhouse, and will feature more than 40 acts.

The line-up includes many of Britain’s top folk and traditional artists, with headline performers including the Demon Barber Roadshow, Four Men And A Dog, and the Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain.

Other top-line performers include Vin Garbutt, Julie Fowlis, Rory McLeod, the Tom McConville Big Band and Benny Gallagher — one half of the duo, Gallagher and Lyle.

There will be appearances by top British bluegrass specialists, The Carrivick Sisters, The Cock and Bull Band, Wheeler Street, Megson, the Dynamos Rhythm Aces and the Original Steamchicken Jazz Band.

The proceedings will be held together by Keith Donnelly and Anthony John Clarke, who will introduce the likes of Jez Lowe and Kate Bramley, Ben and Joe Broughton, The Rainmakers, and Flossie Malavialle — the only performer to have appeared at all four Southwell festivals.

Also on the bill will be festival favourites Cockersdale, Peeping Tom, Lucy Ward, Kimbers Men, John Smith, and Mick Ryan and Paul Downes.

Those who know the festival will be aware that there are always at least two world-class guitarists on the programme.

This tradition is growing apace, with appearances by multi-award-winning Essex guitarist Clive Carroll, to American performer John Smith, who is also a fine singer songwriter in the troubadour mould, Phil Hare, and Steven Finn, who plays guitar, harp and harmonica.

They will appear alongside the likes of Brian Peters, a traditional performer on melodeon and anglo concertina, bluesman Roger Sutcliffe, and new talent, such as the Renaissance-style English musicians, Horses Brawl, and teenage folkies The QP.

As well as the two marquees hosting these performers, there will be children’s entertainment and sessions from traditional and morris dance sides from around the country.

Outside the festival site, there will be music and dance at The Old Coach House, The Hearty Goodfellow and The Bramley Apple while The Workhouse will host workshops and dance displays.

Full weekend tickets cost £58 until the end of February and include entry to extra fringe events on the Thursday evening.
