Freight is great

Freight trains are the focus of the first Railways Remembered event of the year.

Rob Foxon will talk about and show rare archive film of when railways were developed to carry coal and freight traffic, not passengers.

He will recall the heyday of heavy freight steam trains and clanking goods wagons.

There will be films showing railway delivery drivers riding on the railway and their mechanical horses on the streets of 1950s Britain.

The show is at the Palace Theatre, Newark, a week today at 7.30pm.
