Irish stars change of track
Classic rock ‘n’ roll country comes to Newark’s Palace Theatre next week with a triple bill of performers.
Irish singer Dominic Kirwan has teamed up with veteran performer P. J. Proby and newcomer Elaine Boyle for The Rock And Roll Country Show.
Dominic, who has been performing live for 21years, said the show was different to his usual concerts, but hoped all his fans would love the rock ‘n’ roll country element.
He said: “It is going to be a lot of fun. We will be doing solo spots, duets and trios throughout the evening, performing tributes to Elvis and lots of music from the 1960s as well as inspirational songs.
“There will be renditions of Blanket On The Ground, Stand By Your Man, Hold Me, Maria, Somewhere, Needles And Pins and Walk In The Room, to name a few.”
Also joining Dominic on stage will be his son, Barry, playing the drums. His other son, Colm, is carving out a musical career in Nashville.
Dominic will be 50 on June 5 and plans to mark the occasion with a concert at The Waterfront Hall, Belfast, for charities involved in cancer care.
“I like to do as much charity work as possible, when I can, and am planning to do a parachute jump,” he said.
Dominic was encouraged to enter singing contests and put on concerts as a youngster in Omagh.
“I loved singing, whether it was at school, at church or in a contest,” he said.
“I used to do Irish dancing too and became quite established in it and then decided to become a professional singer and have been doing it ever since.”
His latest album, My Kinda Country, charted at number three in November’s country album’s listings.
He brings The Rock And Roll Country Show to Newark on March 11, at 7.30pm.
Accompanying him is P. J. Proby, whose first television appearance was with The Beatles on an ITV special in 1964 before going on to record several hits.
Although a newcomer to the music business, Elaine Boyle is carving out a niche for herself with her powerful vocals.
She has travelled throughout the UK with The Ladies Of Country tour and recently completed a UK tour with Dominic Kirwan.
