Nottingham Shakespeare Company to perform Twelfth night at venues across Nottingham
Free, open-air performances of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night are to take place at venues across Nottingham.
The fast-paced 90-minute production will be performed by Nottingham Shakespeare Company.
Performances are at St Stephen’s Churchyard, Sneinton, tonight, 7pm; DH Lawrence Pavilion, Highfields Park, tomorrow, 7pm; Sneinton Market Avenues Plaza, Saturday, 2pm; St Mary’s Churchyard, Lace Market, Saturday, 7pm; and Victoria Victoria Embankment Bandstand, next Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 2pm and 7pm.
Nottingham Shakespeare Company is dedicated to bringing fresh, contemporary, accessible interpretations of the Bard.
"Everyone should come because Shakespeare belongs to us all," said a spokesman.
"You get these people who think theatre in general and Shakespeare in particular is just for posh people or that it’s difficult or boring. We change that.
"Shakespeare filled his theatre with everyone from the groundings who paid a penny and packed out the standing to the great Lords, Queen Elizabeth and King James!
We do everything for free and outside so anyone can just rock up and enjoy the ride. Our show’s only 90 minutes too so it’s really fast paced and we deliberately chose a comedy to lift everyone’s spirits after what has been, let’s face it, one hell of a year.
"Everyone will be laughing out loud and we all need that."
