Musicians given invite to new Trent Sinfonia orchestra ahead of inaugural concert
With the easing covid restrictions, a new musical initiative the gives local instrumentalists the chance to join a select group of players to perform concerts has been announced.
The Trent Sinfonia orchestra will start rehearsing in September for its inaugural concert at the historic Georgian ballroom at Newark Town Hall, planned to take place in early 2023.
Trent Sinfonia will be led by Cynthia Fleming, who in her professional career was leader of the BBC Concert Orchestra, and frequently performed as a soloist at BBC Proms concerts. Cynthia’s impressive CV also includes time as guest leader with many other orchestras including the Hallé and RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
The orchestra will rehearse twice a month on Monday evenings at a Newark venue, and will be conducted by Aric Prentice, director of music at Lincoln Cathedral, whose musical activities extend to orchestras around the region including the Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra.
Malcolm Goodman, founder of Trent Sinfonia said: “With so many experienced instrumentalists in the area, hopefully this new orchestra will be very popular. We are inviting people from Newark, Grantham, Retford, and Lincoln to join the Trent Sinfonia and help establish a new regular concert season at this historic venue in Newark.”
