Sleeping Beauty pantomime at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, rescheduled to March 2021
Pantomime audiences will have reason to be cheerful early next year, after the star-studded socially-distanced production of Sleeping Beauty at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, was rescheduled.
The festive bonanza — starring Paul Chuckle, Ben Nickless and street dance stars Flawless — was due to to be performed from December 12 to January 3.
However, with the coronavirus restrictions in place, it could not go ahead with a live audience.
Instead, it will now open on Saturday, March 27, and run until Sunday, April 11.
“Demand for tickets and traffic to our website was off the scale when we announced this very special production. It seems to have really struck a chord with our audiences,” said Jonathan Saville, director of audiences and programming,
“As soon as we found out Nottingham was going into tier three we knew we owed it to them to reschedule rather than cancel it.
“Hopefully, this great news today will give our brilliant audiences, and our wonderful cast, company and theatre team, something bright and fun to look forward to in the spring.
“In the meantime, we would like to thank everyone involved for their patience, resilience and continued optimism. We will get through this, and we can’t wait to present a pantomime Easter-style!”
Next year’s production, created especially for the Theatre Royal, will be a one-act celebration of pantomime, packed full of comedy and laughter and allow audience members the opportunity to come safely together and enjoy the magic of the much-loved and unique art form.
All original ticket holders have been given priority booking for the new Easter dates.
The show is being staged as a result of an initiative between Qdos Entertainment and The National Lottery, which is providing financial support for theatres to stage socially distanced, live pantomimes during the pandemic.
Safety for customers, staff and performers remains the venue’s number one priority and these socially-distanced pantomime performances will adhere to all national government guidance and local restrictions.
