Graffiti Classics and The Drifters head to Newark Palace Theatre

Classics and comedy clash in a musical show coming to Newark’s Palace Theatre on Friday, June 13.

Graffiti Classics brings together 16 strings, eight dancing feet and four voices in one entertaining show.

Graffiti Classics is a comedy string quartet that never sits down as they aim to burst the perceived elitist boundaries of traditional classical music with its all-singing, all-dancing musical comedy show.

The group energetically leaps and clowns its way through an eclectic musical landscape from Beethoven to Elvis, all virtuosically accompanied on their own string instruments.

Basically, this ground-breaking group is on a mission to make classical music irresistibly fun so expect lots of laughs, dancing and singing, all tied together with cheeky audience interaction.

This isn’t just a classical concert - it’s a virtuosic mix of musical comedy, gypsy-folk, opera, bluegrass, stand-up comedy and dance!

Returning to the Palace Theatre on Friday, June 20, are the The Drifters performing all their classic hits from the past six decades.

The Drifters were created in 1953 by George Treadwell and lead singer Clyde McPhatter. George Treadwell managed the group and laid the foundation of what would make the Drifters one of the greatest groups of all time. The group that also saw numerous members over the years - none of the original members are still alive - including Johnny Moore and Ben E King.

After George’s untimely death in 1967, it was down to his widow Faye to continue with the group and to determine the direction they would take - and now the baton has been passed on to their daughter, Tina.

At the Palace next week the latest line-up will be performing hits such as Saturday Night At The Movies, Under the Boardwalk, and Kissin’ In The Back Row.
