Pop-up poetry to promote art form
A wide range of poets will take part in a new event to promote the popular art form in the Newark area.
The Pop-Up Poetry Readings and Slam afternoon is at the Gilstrap Centre, Castlegate, Newark, on Sunday, July 22, at 3pm.
The event, to celebrate local poets from Newark and Sherwood, is the brainchild of Peter Jennison, who runs The Galerie in Kirkgate with his wife, Gill.
Peter said: “It promises to be varied and enjoyable.
“Join us for poems about computers, umbrellas and even poems about poems.
“Pop Up Poetry is being held at the Gilstrap, to highlight the importance of keeping this building for the people of Newark.
“The recent problems over the Gilstrap Centre inspired me to put on the event here.”
About 15 poets have agreed to take part in the event so far with more expected on the day.
Tickets, priced £2 in advance, are available by calling Fiona Theokritoff on 07804 190654.
Tickets, priced £3, will also be available on the door. Tea and biscuits will be served.
