A former pupil from the Minster School, Southwell, will be at Newark Library for a book reading, signing and craft activity session.

Simon Jamie, 39, has written and illustrated The Sheep Who Couldn’t Sleep and will read his book to youngsters aged from three to seven on Saturday, December 15, at 11am.

The reading will be interactive, using puppets and getting the youngsters involved. They will then be given a chance to make their own sheep and take part in colouring activities. The book, published by Fingermouse Books, will be available to buy and get signed by the author.

Simon spent his childhood and early adult life in Southwell before graduating from the University of Leeds and later obtaining an MSc from Nottingham Trent University.

Simon, who lives in Nottinghamshire with his wife and two children, said: “The Sheep Who Couldn’t Sleep is my first book, written and illustrated over many sleepless nights.

“Every page is filled with bright, colourful illustrations, and the story is brought to life in memorable rhyming verse. The book makes a great bedtime story for young children aged three or above.”

He said his writing style had developed through his interest in music, singing and songwriting, and while working day-to-day as a designer for both web and print. More books are currently in development.

The Sheep Who Couldn’t Sleep is available from Woodlanders at Southwell, The Bookcase, Lowdham, Ferry Farm Park, Hoveringham, and at Stray’s, Newark.

It is available in local libraries and online from Amazon.co.uk, Waterstones.com and WHSmith.co.uk, as well as direct from Fingermouse Books at www.sheepwhocouldntsleep.com
