Remembering Thoresby during second world war
Volunteers at Thoresby Gallery, near Edwinstowe, are one of the first groups in the UK to receive a Heritage Lottery Fund All Our Stories grant.
A new project, entitled Remembering Wartime Thoresby, has been awarded £7,700 for groups to tell their own story and find out more about memories of Thoresby during the second world war.
All Our Stories is a new small grant programme. It was launched earlier this year in support of BBC2’s The Great British Story.
It has been designed as an opportunity for everyone to get involved in their heritage.
With Heritage Lottery Funding and support, community groups will carry out activities that help people explore, share and celebrate their local heritage.
Carolyn Hughes, of Thoresby Gallery, said: “We are really excited about our success in receiving the grant.
“As part of the project, our group of volunteers would be very interested to speak to anyone who remembers Thoresby Park or has connections with the area dating back to the period of the second world war.”
She said officers were stationed at Thoresby during the war.
Carolyn said tanks were kept at the nearby Proteus Camp and she was keen to hear from anyone who knew more about them.
