Music lovers can round-off the year in style with a varied programme of entertainment in Nottingham over the next few days.

The programme at the Royal Concert Hall culminates in the traditional New Year’s Eve Gala hosted by the Sinfonia Viva orchestra.

Back for a 27th year, it starts at 6pm to give concert-goers plenty of time to get home for the new year celebrations.

To celebrate 100 years since the birth of television, the concert will be packed full of familiar music from iconic TV shows and adverts. From old favourites including Verdi’s Force of Destiny Overture (the Stella Artois advert) to gorgeous soundtracks from shows including Downton Abbey, the evening promises a delightful mix of nostalgia and celebration.

They will even play the Liberty Bell March (Monty Python) to get your toes tapping.

Conductor Nicholas Kok has made these New Year festivities his own over more than two decades and joins us again to lead the celebrations, which will also include the traditional Viennese waltzes and singing of Auld Lang Syne.

Before that, there is a treat for Taylor Swift fans on Saturday, December 28.

The world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra is back at the venue on Monday, December 30, with some more big band sounds.

Directed by Ray McVay, they will perform another afternoon of Glenn Miller music, accompanied by Catherine Sykes and Mark Porter singings the harmonies of the timeless classics.

In the second half John James will be joining Mark and Ray Wordsworth for their rendition of the Rat Pack.
