Social nights a first for dance teachers
Line dance teachers Dave Squires and his wife, Maria, are starting a new venture in Claypole Village Hall.
On the last Saturday of every month under the banner of Rodeo CMC, they will present live music and dancing. The first one is on April 24 from 7pm and features a performance by Chris James Country.
Dave, 69, of Philip Road, Newark, said he and his wife were members of the Best Western Dance Academy and taught beginners at Christ Church Hall, Newark, on Wednesday nights and improvers and intermediates in Claypole on Thursdays.
Dave said: “I thought it would be a good idea to start country and western social nights so pupils and members of the public could come along and listen to the music and then do some line dancing.
“I have been a fan of country music all my life and line dancing for 12 years. I decided to become a teacher a year ago because I was fed up of being taught line dances that were never done at socials.”
Arizona Wez will perform on May 29, Hayden Country on June 26, Dave Whitmore on July 31, Natalie Diamond on August 28, Donna Wylde on September 25, Richard Palmer on October 30 and Stubby on November 27. Tickets, priced £5, are available at the door. For more information ring Dave on 01636 684920.
