Spies and lies and all before breakfast

The themes in a play written about 30 years ago have become topical again and will be presented by the East Bridgford Drama Group.

Sleepers Awake is a comedy about spies by Alan Griffiths and tells the story of an ordinary family caught up in a most extraordinary situation.

It stems from a visit by a strange electricity board man, followed soon afterwards by a man from the gas board. The visits may mean that a wedding has to be postponed, but there is the promise of a holiday in Scotland that no one wants.

For Mr and Mrs Rainbow these strange events bring something almost surreal into their normally quiet lives. Will they be able to cope with what is asked of them or will the whole episode end in absolute chaos and danger?

The cast comprises Jean Starbuck as Jenny Rainbow, Jeff Casterton as Ron Rainbow, who also directs, Lindsey Parr as Sharon Rainbow, Freda Quinn as Doreen, Mick Quinn as Ivan Gromyenko and Peter Salter and Colonel George Phipps-Sanderson.

The play in the village hall runs from Tuesday, November 16 to Saturday, November 20, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Michael Clarke on 01949 20682, East Bridgford News and East Bridgford Post Office.
