Wilde About Oscar to be performed in the grounds of Newark Castle
Fans of Oscar Wilde are in for a treat in the latest offering of this summer’s Palace At The Castle season.
Wilde About Oscar is performed in the grounds of Newark Castle on August 8 at 7pm.
Join Oscar Wilde for a sparkling and sprightly one-man show, in which stories will be told, laughter will be raised and, perhaps, a few tears shall be shed.
Award-winning actor Jonathan Goodwin performs in a show scripted and adapted by himself.
That is followed by a performance of The Gondoliers on August 14.
Set in picturesque Venice, this light-hearted operetta will whisk you away to a world of blissful romance, barbed satire and comedic chaos.
Two charming gondoliers, Marco and Giuseppe, suddenly find themselves elevated to the status of royalty. Each tasked with choosing their Queen from a bevy of beautiful women, hilarity ensues when the rightful Queen arrives demanding to know which of the men is her husband.
As the plot thickens and the absurdity reaches its peak, love triumphs, and the gondoliers discover that happiness lies not in noble titles but in the simplicity of true love. The witty lyrics of Gilbert and catchy melodies of Sullivan are expertly brought to life by Illyria, who have been captivating audiences all over the world for more than 30 years.
