Writer turns to sci-fi for latest adventure
An ex-patriot from Michigan, USA, now living at Cromwell, has published her third novel. The latest work by Catherine Ione Gray is a science fiction adventure novel called Attractions, and follows her previous novellas, The Settlements and The Sight Of Evil.
In Attractions space explorers The Frenarians are looking to settle on a peaceful planet. But even before they land things take a turn for the worse, and they soon realise they may never know peace again.
Catherine discovered her love of writing when she was aged 13. She decided she would either be a writer or a secret agent.
“I didn’t understand then that I could experience the exciting, adventurous life we imagine secret agents have, simply by writing about them from the comfort of my own home,” she said.
“In 2000 my husband and I moved to the Netherlands for a year.
“My husband is English so we had always planned on experiencing both America and Europe.
“At the time I couldn’t work so I was writing full-time with no income of my own. We went where my husband, who is in IT, could get a job.”
Unfortunately, he was made redundant so they moved to England. Catherine stopped writing and began a career in law but already has plans for her next four novels.
“So far, I have more ideas than time to write them,” she said. “But I keep writing. It’s what I love to do.
“I believe that is the key to happiness — doing something you love.”
Catherine publishes her works through Amazon and Smashwords, instead of sending them to a traditional publishing house.
Her work is available in printed and electronic format from Amazon and other booksellers.
