A1 soutbound closed after serious collision
A collision involving two lorries has closed the A1 in both directions.
The southbound carriageway is closed from the Tuxford slip-road in Markham Moor.
The northbound carriageway has considerable tailbacks but has re-opened at 1pm after initially being closed.
The incident took place between Carlton-on-Trent and Tuxford this morning.
Nottinghamshire Police are on the scene and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
Officers are working hard to get water provided to drivers and passengers stuck in traffic on the A1.
They are being assisted by fire and air and road ambulance.
Highways England crews are working with police to turn around trapped traffic caught between Markham Moor and Tuxford.
Crews have also cut the central reservation to further assist with clearing traffic.
Traffic moving southbound is being diverted and drivers should follow the solid triangle symbol.
Motorists will be taken from Markham Moor roundabout towards Ollerton along the A614, before being diverted to the A616 back towards South Muskham.
Drivers will be able to rejoin the A1 southbound at North Muskham.
Marshalls Coaches briefly suspended their 37 between Newark and Retford and their 39 service between Newark and Normanton-on-Trent.
