Apple Day 2022 at East Markham returns for fruit based fun

As we wave goodbye to the summer months and enter autumn, October will bring the welcome return of Apple Day.

The hugely popular East Markham Apple Day was an annual event in the county's agricultural calendar for 26 years until restrictions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic forced a break for the past three years.

The fruity fun day will take place in and around the East Markham village hall and the adjacent Heritage Orchard on Sunday October 2 from 10.00am until 4.00pm.

Over 300 varieties of apples will be showcased at the event with free apple tasting and an apple advice centre offering tips.

Dozens of stalls related to apples, fruit growing, general gardening and crafts will appear alongside entertainment, refreshments and you can even get yourself a roast lunch with, you guessed it, apple sauce.

There will also be a new apple recipe book available, with free tasting tables so visitors can try out the recipes for themselves before heading over to the orchard to pick their own apples.

On what it meant to be returning post-covid, representative for the event, Barry Smith, said: "Hopefully a return to normality, it's by far the biggest single day in the village's annual timetable and has raised many thousands for local charities."

As part of the festivities, three additional 'pick your own' days will take place for the first time on October 1, 2 and 8, where visitors will be able to fill their boots and take home some tasty rare varieties.

Apple Day will take place in East Markham, North Nottinghamshire on Sunday October 2, from 10.00am until 4.00pm. The three 'pick your own' days will be on October 1, 2 and 8.

Profits from the events are regularly donated to local charities.
