Bid to replace lost lorry park spaces
A lorry park that lost capacity when Newark and Sherwood District Council’s new headquarters was built on part of the site could be extended.
The council has applied to its planning department for permission to extend the lorry park on Great North Road, Newark, because spaces were lost to what it described in its planning application as “a neighbouring development.”
That development was the council’s new headquarters, Castle House, which opened last month.
The proposal would extend the site to its boundary with the A46 Newark bypass, the roundabout and Great North Road.
The lorry park, which was established in 1987, could accommodate around 160 vehicles before the council headquarters were built.
Its capacity was reduced to 100 but with the new extension that would be increased to around 163.
It was first revealed that the lorry park would lose capacity in December, 2015, two months after district councillors approved the building of its new headquarters.
At the time some councillors were critical of the authority and questioned why they had not learnt of the potential impact on the lorry park before they considered the new headquarters.
