Sherwood MP Mark Spencer calls for British resolve as the country endures second national lockdown

We have unfortunately now entered a second set of nationally imposed restrictions across England, says Sherwood MP Mark Spencer.

This is not something the government wanted to do, or does lightly, and it’s not something I wanted to see happen, but, given the rise in the number of coronavirus-related cases nationally, it is a necessary step in trying to tackle the virus.

If social contact between people is lessened, that also lessens the possibility that the virus is able to spread, so it is incredibly important that we listen to the measures the NHS and the government are putting out — work from home if you can, wear your masks in public spaces, wash your hands, and keep your distance.

We are, however, incredibly keen to come out of these restrictions as soon as it is safe to do so. We know that restrictions unfortunately can bring tough times for individuals and businesses.

In order to help businesses and employees throughout this period, we have implemented a massive scheme of financial support for businesses, employers and employees.

This support package is regularly updated, so it’s important that you do check to see what current support there is, as some of the support may be different from what was previously in place earlier this year.

Though we are now again in these restrictions, I have full faith that, just as earlier this year, the British resolve will come through once again.

Our understanding of the virus is progressing. We have now developed rapid-turnaround tests which we are going to be deploying across Nottinghamshire, and we are seeing positive steps with regards to a vaccine, all of which are incredibly important steps in the ongoing battle with the coronavirus.
