Newark Army Cadets are collecting items needed by different charities and the first recipient is the Newark Emmaus Trust, which houses 16 to 25 year olds.

Emmaus Trust deputy manager John Hudson went to the detachment's headquarters on Sherwood Avenue where some of the cadets presented him with boxes of items they had collected.

These included clothing for adults and children, books, DVD’s, toiletries and some tinned and packet food.

When asked why they picked this charity, the cadets said: “As we are a young age group ourselves, we can relate to this charity.

“We wanted to help young people who are less fortunate than ourselves.”

Newark Army Cadets are both male and female and represent many different backgrounds.

Detachment commander, Staff Sergeant Chris Guymer said: "When they first get their uniform and put it on for the first time, it’s like a sense of wellbeing.

"We are like a little family if you like, where we help each other in any way we can."
