Career choices on show at Newark College
Newark College’s annual careers and apprenticeship fair was back with 15 local businesses exhibiting to students who are planning their next steps.
Some learners were even invited to attend an interview later that day after impressing the prospective employer.
Students from Newark College gained insight into the employment opportunities and apprenticeship vacancies available to them, as they met with representatives from local companies looking to recruit.
Andrew Fenwick, managing director at electric motorcycles company Super Soco, attended the event with three of his machines.
He said: “We are pleased to be here as it offers an exciting opportunity for us, as a local business, to work in synergy with the college to offer employment to local people.
"We are recruiting for a couple of mechanic positions, and it has been great to meet the automotive students. In fact, we’ve invited three potential candidates to come to the factory for an interview and to show them around.”
The college works closely with businesses to deliver employer-led courses and to train a skilled workforce that meets the demand for roles in the area.
Electrical installations student Declan Scarborough said: “I’ve found today very eye-opening, and it’s helped me to think about what I would like to pursue in the future.
"I have mostly spoken to Derry’s Building Services, Super Soco and McDonalds. I think it’s really good the college puts on events like this to help its students.”
