A branch of the Royal British Legion and a school’s air cadet force have exchanged certificates of affiliation to mark their close ties.

A ceremony was held to mark the close links between Bingham Royal British Legion (RBL) and the Toot Hill detachment of the Army Cadets.

Bingham RBL presents a trophy each year to the best cadet and this year’s went to Corporal Luke Markham, who showed the most improvement in his proficiency standards and leadership skills.

Certificates of affiliation were exchanged between the detachment commander, second-lieutenant Sarah Parry, and the chairman of Bingham RBL, Mr Richard Montgomery, at a ceremony attended by the executive head of Toot Hill School, Mr Ash Rahman, and head of school, Mrs Sandy Paley.

The ceremony was also attended by the recently-retired officer commanding of D squadron Nottinghamshire Army Cadets, Major Adam Rigley, and his wife, Mrs Lisa Rigley, as well as parents and family members.

Since their formation three years ago the cadets have helped with the Poppy Appeal, at Remembrance parades and church services, and with the delivery of Christmas hampers to elderly veterans.
