Chance to see life as a chorister at Southwell Minster this Saturday
Southwell Minster is offering a taste of becoming a cathedral chorister on Saturday.
Boys can experience the life of a chorister at a special Minster open day from 2.30-6.30pm.
It is aimed at boys aged between six and nine and designed to introduce a flavour of chorister life to a wider audience.
Southwell Minster’s Choir Master and Rector Chori, Paul Hale, said: “It’s great fun and he might then like to audition to join the Minster Choir.
"As well as singing every day in the Minster, the cathedral choristers are educated at the Minster School, starting in the Music Specialist Junior Department in Years 3,4 or 5. They broadcast, record and tour internationally and enjoy an exciting range of social events. And they’re paid too.”
The afternoon will include a tour of the Minster for parents, singing a variety of songs, and the experience of singing as part of the cathedral choir, culminating in a performance at evensong.
Tea will be served in the Archbishops Palace, and a film shown about life in the Minster Choir.
