Newark charities join together to put a spring in their step

Two charities, the Children’s Bereavement Centre and the Newark Emmaus Trust, have joined forces to co-host a new fundraising event.

Support for Newark-based charities is greatly appreciated at any time, but never more so than 2022 thanks to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Children’s Bereavement Centre provides free one-on-one support to children and young people who experience trauma due to the terminal illness or bereavement of someone they love.

Last year, it helped 923 families receive the right kind of support and guidance they need at one of the most difficult times in their lives.

During in the last 24 months, fundraising has been substantially reduced, therefore charities are more reliant on the generosity of businesses and individuals.

The Newark Emmaus Trust, Northgate, is a charity that has been supporting and accommodating homeless young people, providing 24/7 support from a professional staff team. The accommodation and training provided by Newark Emmaus Trust assists young people to address issues that have resulted them becoming homeless. By developing social and life skills they are encouraged to increase their confidence and self esteem while reducing anti-social behaviour and offending, resulting in the majority of the young people moving on into the community in a positive way.

Tickets for the dinner-dance are on sale. They are £55 per person or £500 for a table of ten, which includes a sparkling wine welcome drink, sponsored by antiques retailer, No55 on Castlegate.

Guests will be welcomed to their seats for a three-course spring-themed locally-sourced menu by compere host, radio presenter and voice over artist, Matt Colbourne.

Live music from Newark band, The Flipside Party Band will encourage a busy dancefloor followed by a disco provided by Paul Walker from Sensation Roadshow.

Joanne Lee, HR and customer service director at headline sponsor Barcode Warehouse, said: “We anticipate a wonderful evening. Both charities are so inspiring in what they provide and achieve that it really is an honour to be part of this event.”

Magician, Roy Bond will perform and, during the evening, there will be a talk about the work both charities do.
