Nine-year-old from East Markham raises over £500 for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation with Norwegian cycle challenge
A nine-year-old girl has raised over £500 for charity after successfully completing a 20 mile uphill cycling challenge in Norway.
Amy Kirkby, from East Markham, cycled 20 miles from Flam, which is at sea level, to Myrdal, which is 2,844 feet above, during her family holiday in Norway last month.
She raised £528 for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF), having been inspired to take on the challenge after finding out how the charity supports her friend’s six year old sister, Ellie, who was born with the rare liver disease PFIC 1.
You can still support Amy’s fundraiser on her JustGiving page.
“Amy was an absolute star,” said her mum, Jennie.
“It was very challenging, and she tackled it with such strength and determination. She’s delighted not only to have completed it but to have exceeded her £500 target for a cause which is close to her heart.”
Michelle Wilkins, head of services for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation added: “CLDF is the only UK charity dedicated to fighting all childhood liver diseases, by providing information and emotional support, funds for research and a voice for all those affected.
“In order to do this, however, we rely on voluntary donations, so what Amy has done for us is just amazing. She absolutely is a star and should be so proud of what she has achieved for Ellie and many other children like her.”
