Closure concern

As a resident of Bullpit Road I am concerned about the closure of the rail crossing.

I think G. Peck (Support For Rail Crossing Closure, Advertiser, August 14) misunderstands that the closure of the crossing will not mean that the railway line will go away.

The incident of the animals killed on the line did not happen at the crossing but further up, and if people want to get on the line they only have to jump the fence either side.

What the closure of the line will mean is an increase in the number and speed of trains using the line and a massive increase in traffic on Barnby Road and Main Street.

It will mean people living on the other side of the crossing will be unable to walk their children to school or walk into Balderton to use the facilities, unless they want to walk down a road with no footpath and an increase in traffic.

For G. Peck to say that “this will have no significant effect on the community” is simply wrong.
