Newark and Sherwood Concert Band performs to a packed parish church
Newark and Sherwood Concert Band and Newark and Sherwood Development Band were hosts to six choirs at their Winter Concert in the parish church.
There was an audience of more than 300 people for the concerts.
Junior schools that took part included John Hunt Primary, Coddington Church of England Primary, Winthorpe Primary, The Mount Primary and Chuter Ede.
They were also joined by Voices Chuter Ede Community Choir.
The concert opened with the band playing Sleigh Ride and Fairytale Of New York.
The choirs and Newark and Sherwood Development Band then performed.
In addition to the audience there were more than 100 musicians and singers.
This event has become an annual concert in the band calendar and brings together schools in the community giving them the opportunity to perform in the beautiful surroundings of the church, while also having the opportunity to hear the concert band.
Richard Williams, chairman of the highly-acclaimed Newark and Sherwood Concert Band, said it was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all.
He said it was rounded off by the band playing Christmas Festival, which received a standing ovation.
The band has more than 60 members who regularly attend rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at Winthorpe Community Centre, but more are welcome to join.
Age is immaterial as it has members who are still at school right through to those who have retired, all of whom are described as a friendly group.
Newark and Sherwood Devel-opment Band is for wind, brass and percussion musicians of any age and ability.
It is there to provide opportunities for learning and returning musicians to play in an ensemble.
