Council to take a closer look at wind turbine site
A decision on plans for a wind turbine close to a busy road has been deferred.
Newark and Sherwood District Council planning committee was unable to visit the site at Lockwell Hill Farm, Farnsfield, ahead of its meeting because of a road accident.
The 78metre turbine would be off the A617 Kirklington Road and close to the A614 roundabout.
The committee was shown a map of the area that highlighted 15 other turbines, which are either in place or approved and yet to be built.
Rufford and Eakring parish councils opposed the turbine because it would be close to the road and have a visual impact.
They were also concerned about the large number of turbines in the area.
Mr Roger Blaney said: “This is in close proximity to the Rufford Forest Farm turbine and five other turbines at Rufford and Bilsthorpe.
“In a two-mile stretch of the A614 there would be no less than ten turbines in view, in six different locations.
“I think that warrants taking into consideration in terms of the cumulative impact of another turbine.
“I propose we defer a decision until we have had a chance to go to Farnsfield to look at the site.”
Mr Julian Hamilton thought the plan should be opposed.
“We are amassing a lot of turbines in this area,” he said.
“Surely we are coming to a point when we have to say enough is enough? It is not fair to plaster an area with turbines.”
