Newark and Sherwood United to face Carlton Town in Notts Senior Cup final at Notts County's Meadow Lane
THE reward for Newark and Sherwood United reaching the Notts Senior Cup final is a match at Meadow Lane in Nottingham.
The Notts FA has announced the final will be played at the home of National League side Notts County on Tuesday, May 2, at 7.45pm.
With just over 1,000 people attending United's semi-final win over Nottingham Forest Academy at Collingham, Newark and Sherwood will be hoping to take plenty of support as they look to end the season with silverware.
Opposition will be Carlton Town.
Speaking on the club's social media, Newark and Sherwood United chairman Steff Wright welcomed the decision to play the match at the County ground, which has a capacity of more than 18,000.
He said: "The final will be played at Meadow Lane, which is exactly where it should be played.
"This should be a spectacle for grassroots football within the county so it's fantastic news that we are playing at one of our senior grounds.
"It will be a great spectacle and a great opportunity for the team, who just beat Anstey Nomads, to walk out of the dug-outs at Meadow Lane and something that all players who play at grassroots level to aspire to play at the end of the season.
"We want to work with the FA and Notts County to make sure we maximise the opportunity and use the facilities we have got to put on a festival of football. That's what football should be about.
"It is the culmination of an excellent season for us but also an excellent season for grassroots football and it should be celebrated."
Ticket prices, details of coaches, and other information will be released by the club over the next few weeks.
Newark and Sherwood United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over high-flying Anstey Nomads on Saturday.
It was only the second time the Nomads — second in the United Counties League Premier North — had lost all season.
The match was goal-less until the 75th minute when James Gardner found the net from a Luke White free-kick.
And the advantage was doubled five minutes later through Kieran Cumming, who lobbed the keeper from a Ross Woolley clearance.
Nomads had a shot cleared off the line and hit the post in the dying seconds but they were denied as United kept another clean sheet.
