Man jailed at Nottingham Crown Court after crashing car stolen from Radcliffe-on-Trent during police pursuit

A driver has been jailed after crashing a stolen car during a police pursuit.

Louis Denham, 26, led Nottinghamshire Police on a lengthy pursuit after stealing a car from Radcliffe in the early hours of April 10 this year.

The vehicle was later spotted travelling along the A52 and instructed to stop by police.

Instead of stopping, Denham drove at high speed through residential areas at nearly twice the speed limit, bouncing over speedbumps and passing blind through junctions.

He failed to negotiate a sharp left hand bend before crashing into a ditch. He ran away from the vehicle on foot and was chased down by officers and eventually arrested.

Denham, of no fixed address, later pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

He appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday and was jailed for 16 months.

Detective constable Kate Taylor said: “This was a disgraceful display of driving that demonstrated a total disregard for the safety of other road users.

“By travelling at such excessive speed through residential areas, Denham could quite easily have killed or seriously injured himself or somebody else.

“I am pleased he has now been jailed and hope this sentence serves as a warning to others about the consequences of this kind of behaviour.”
