Day-by-day guide of Queen Platinum Jubilee events in Newark and Sherwood
THURSDAY
Play in the park at Sconce and Devon Park, Newark, for the whole family from 1pm to 3pm.
Around 100 steampunk enthusiasts will gather in Newark Market Place for the lighting of the jubilee beacon at 9.45pm.
Collingham has an afternoon tea, 3pm onwards, at the Memorial Hall on High Street with the Churches Together. Tickets are £3 from from Gascoines Post Office.
Collingham also has a beacon-lighting ceremony from 6pm at The Royal Oak, featuring a barbecue, entertainment by the Collingham Singers and Majesty Fanfare played by Alastair Weir. Beacon lit at 9.45pm.
An artisan market will be held in Southwell.
Farndon has a fun run on the playing field, 5.45pm – 6.45pm. A barbecue will be at the cricket club, beacon lighting at 9.45pm followed by a solar-lit road to the Queen’s Memorial Bench.
Other activities are a royal scarecrow and decorated royal-themed window and ‘find the rock’ trail. These activities take place throughout the four-day weekend.
There’s a jubilee afternoon tea at All Saints’ Barnby-in-the-Willows, 3pm to 5pm.
Farnsfield has a royal treasure hunt around the village and a disco and barbecue, 7pm to 11pm, at Farnsfield Cricket Club.
Halam has a jubilee photo archive at the village hall and beacon lighting at 9.45pm.
Jubilee Jive takes place at Orston Village Hall from 8pm.
In Coddington, from 7pm, the Scouts, Cubs and Brownies parade from Thorpe Oaks through the village to the Scout Hall to raise the Union Flag.
At 9.45pm, the beacon will be in the carpark of The Plough.
Balderton is also lighting a beacon at 9.45pm.
Coronation Street Park will also be open all day should anyone want to join in with a picnic or celebrate, however, alcohol is not permitted.
There will also be a royal-themed village trail around Sutton-on-Trent across the whole weekend.
Residents are being encouraged to put decorations up in their gardens and/or windows, or put out a scarecrow.
A musical variety show takes place in Newark Parish Church from 6pm to 7pm.
FRIDAY
In Newark Market Place there will be a full market of 120 stalls. Steampunk and entertainment.
There is a history in pictures display at Farnsfield Village Centre.
Street parties take place in Farndon.
There will be a family fun day at Thorpe Oaks Playing Field, Coddington, from 2pm until 4pm with Coddington and Winthorpe Cricket Club.
A jubilee dance takes place at Coddington Community Centre with dancing through the decades.
There’s a family fun day from 2pm at Collingham and District Cricket Club, Dale Field, until late, featuring a bar, barbecue, stalls, children’s activities, inflatables, live music and dancing to the Hicksville Bombers.
And Jubilee Play in the Park takes place at Yew Tree Park, Ollerton, from 1pm to 3pm.
There’s live music from 8pm at the Lord Nelson, Sutton-on-Trent.
Screveton and Car Colston jubilee party takes place from noon to 8pm on the Car Colston Common and features music, rounders, tug of war, Crufts — Canine Capers, cake competition and a quiz.
A celebratory event will be held from 2pm to 8.30pm at Cropwell Butler Village Hall and will see afternoon tea, charity stalls, children’s entertainment and craft area, dance display, dog show, barn dance and barbecue during the evening.
SATURDAY
There will be a picnic in Newark Castle grounds from 11am to 3pm with music from Captain Of The Lost Waves.
In Newark Market Place, there will be a market with music, and in the evening there will be a Steampunk ball in Newark Town Hall.
The Street Party in the Paddock begins in the donkey’s field at Forge Cottage, Hawksworth Road, Syerston, from 2pm.
It includes giant versions of pin the tail on the donkey, Connect 4, dominoes, Jenga, magnetic darts, spinning dart bombs, Wellie wanging, croquet and tug-of-war, karaoke, film show and live music.
An afternoon tea is being held at St Giles’ Community Hall, Balderton, from 3pm to 5pm. Tickets only.
There will be a flypast over the Lancaster Grange care home at Fernwood as the celebrations coincide with the return of the commemoration to RAF Balderton.
A Hurricane aircraft is due over at 12.53pm.
There’ll also be a palace-type party for residents. Events at Lancaster Grange will conclude at 1.30pm.
Wellow Maypole Jubilee Celebrations take place from noon to 5pm, including Maypole dancing and the crowning of the May Queen.
Jubilee celebrations at Hawton Church from 4pm will feature music, games and a quiz .
Farnsfield Royal British Legion branch has organised a street party from 5pm until late at the Village Centre at New Hill.
There’s a jubilee walk around Farndon nature reserves from 10am to noon.
Barnby-in-the-Willows has village party on the green.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Family Fun Day Extravaganza takes place from noon at Sutton-on-Trent Sports Club on Grassthorpe Road, which promises a day and night full of entertainment for adults and children.
Trooping The Colour will be screened at Long Bennington Village Hall and there will be a disco in the evening from 7.30pm.
There’s a street party in Hawksworth during the afternoon.
SUNDAY
Noisy Worship at All Saints’ Church, Collingham, is followed by a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Vine Farm Paddock from 10.15am.
A special Eucharist service takes place in Newark Parish Church at 11.15am to celebrate the jubilee, followed by a picnic in the church gardens.
Farnsfield picnic in the park takes place from 1pm to 5pm at Hadleigh Park Field.
There’s a service of celebration and afternoon tea at the Methodist Church from 2pm to 5pm.
A number of street parties will also be held independently in the village in the afternoon.
In Newark, there are street parties planned by residents in town that include Winchilsea Avenue, Charles Street and Newton Street.
Road closures are likely to be in place wherever there is a street party.
There will be a tea and cake event at Millgate Community Centre on Pelham Street, Newark. The free event starts at 1pm and finishes at 3pm. There will be jubilee crafts, songs, food and lots more.
There is a party on the lawn at Southwell Minster from noon to 3.30pm featuring music and games.
Weston is having a jubilee street party at the village hall with performances from the local choir and talented village musicians, and Besthorpe is having one too.
And it’s Songs of Praise and the Jubilee Anthem at St Giles’, Balderton, at 6pm.
A Big Lunch takes place in the churchyard of All Saints’, Barnby-in-the-Willows, from 1pm.
In Sutton-on-Trent, all are welcome to attend a service at the Methodist Church at 10.30am.
A Church Street street party includes live music, children’s entertainment and maypole dancing from 2pm to 5pm.
A street party takes place at Long Bennington Village Hall from noon to 5pm with games, choirs and cheerleaders.
Orston hosts a street party and disco from 2pm to 8pm, including a whole village population photograph at 3pm.
Whatton and Aslockton have united for a joint celebration on the shared playing field on Dark Lane for family picnics and afternoon tea.
Bingham hosts a lunch party on the square from noon to 6pm.
There’s a cricket match in Screveton and Car Colston on Sunday at Car Colston Cricket Club from 2pm.
Cotgrave Town Council is providing music and dancing from 11.45am to 5.15pm as part of the national Big Lunch. There will be a stage, small range of food and drink stalls and an outside bar in front of the shopping centre on Candleby Lane.
