Drink-driver from Farndon banned, a Newark thief sentenced and a con artist fails to get his own way
A drink-driver who pleaded guilty was banned for 18 months and fined £120 at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.
Charlie Matthias, 24, of Main Street, Farndon, blew 76mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.
A thief who helped himself to aftershaves by designer brands from TKMaxx was sentenced to a 16-month community order.
Paul Richens, 38, of Portland Street, Newark, had the case against him proved in absence. Magistrates found he had stolen Calvin Klein, Diesel and Fila aftershaves worth £67.93. They ruled he must get treatment for an alcohol addiction and do rehabilitation. Richens was on a conditional discharge for three offences of shoplifting and possession of a Class A drug.
A landscaper who twice took money for work that he never carried out has had his application to vacate his guilty pleas refused by a judge. William Bower, 43, of Castle View, Tolney Lane, Newark, had pleaded guilty to two fraud matters; obtaining a £2,750 for works at a house in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and quoting and obtaining £850 for work at a property in Bingham, neither of which were carried out.
Bower was remanded on conditional bail to appear before magistrates on December 9 or a warrant will be issued for his arrest.
