A writer who grew up in Bleasby has used her local knowledge for the setting of her latest novel.
Set in a fictional town inspired by Juliet Calthorpe’s upbringing and studies in Nottinghamshire, the key locations in her novel, Bramley, bear an uncanny resemblance to Southwell and Newark. Meanwhile, Nottingham becomes Nettleton, writes Sarah Cure.
Although they have been given a clever literary twist, eagle-eyed readers will recognise a number of the landmarks and establishments where the twists and turns take place.
“Each chapter is a different story, and every story has a twist,” Juliet explains. “But they all connect together to form a complete novel with a dark undertone.”
Evil haunts the town of Bramley, driving doctors to human taxidermy, parents to abandon their children, husbands to murder, wives to false imprisonment and the inhabitants to the brink of insanity.
Their individual stories are told, gradually interweaving into a fine web of jealousy, deceit and loss, revelation, hope and transformation.’
