Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, Nottinghamshire Police and First Responders demonstrate dangers of rivers as district basks in heatwave
Emergency services joined forces for a live river rescue demonstration, highlighting the dangers of open water.
As the district basks in a second heatwave this summer it may be tempting to jump into rivers to cool off — but there are lots of hidden dangers.
A live demonstration and first aid session was held in Farndon today (Thursday, August 11) to educate people on the dangers of swimming in open water.
Newark White Watch manager Carey Thomas said: "Not going in the water is always best. Enjoy it, but stay bankside and don't be tempted to go in it.
"I know it's hot and it does feel like it would cool you off quite well, but there can be dangers and its a dangerous place to be."
The service demonstrated bankside rescues with ropes and poles, before taking to the water in it's boat.
Lives First Responders lead a CPR and defibrillator session, showing people how to provide emergency first aid.
Rural South Police helped co-ordinate the event, and provided free bike marking to visitors.
