Newark Town Council’s fundraising campaign in support of Ukraine has seen an initial £2,500 sent to Newark’s twin town of Sandomierz in Poland.
Newark has a longstanding twinning agreement with Sandomierz. In turn, Sandomierz is twinned with Ostrog in the Ukraine.
Refugees from Ukraine have been arriving in Sandomierz.
The town council in Sandomierz is supporting those displaced into their town and is also sending supplies and aid to Ostrog.
Newark town clerk Alan Mellor said the money was made up of £1,500 in public donations and £1,000 from the Newark Twinning Association.
Mr Mellor said that the town council in Sandomierz were greatly appreciative of what was being done in Newark.
