Fire service plants trees in Newark park
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has planted more than 100 trees in a Newark park in response to the removal of trees at the town’s fire station.
Five trees were removed as part of ongoing work to build a new station.
The new trees were planted at nearby Sconce and Devon Park.
Mr Tony Yardley, fire service district manager for Newark and Sherwood, said: “It was with regret that we had to remove the trees from outside the station. That is why it was decided we would make a positive difference to the environment by replanting trees in Sconce and Devon Park.
“I hope the trees, once they are fully grown, will be enjoyed by visitors to the park for years to come.”
Mr Phil Beard, of the district council parks department, attended the tree planting, along with a representative of the Gelder Group, which is responsible for building the new station.
The £3.5m station is set to be finished early next year.
While work is carried out, the current station is remaining operational to ensure continued fire cover in and around Newark.
