Staff at a firm specialising in sports surfaces celebrated its 40th anniversary with a party on board a river cruiser.

Fifty colleagues at Conica took a trip down the River Trent on the MV Sonning and each received a gift.

Conica, on Jessop Way, was founded in 1977 by Newark businessman Mr Charles Lawrence and was formerly known as Charles Lawrence International. It is part of Swiss company Conica AG and has become a market leader in the supply of sports and playground surfacing materials.

Conica is part of a global group of companies owned by German-based Serafin GmbH.

Mr Richard Hills, financial director for Conica, said: “It is a tremendous achievement for any business to reach its 40th anniversary, and it was a pleasure to bring our employees together to spend an enjoyable afternoon on the river.

“Conica now supplies sports surfacing systems and materials to some of the top names in sports and play facility construction — an achievement we are incredibly proud of.”
