The Flying Scotsman is running a little late this morning after being stopped in its tracks near Peterborough because of trespassers on the line.

The sheer number of people trying to catch a glimpse of the service meant all services on the East Coast Mainline, including the Flying Scotsman, had to be halted.

The Flying Scotsman is travelling between London to York.

It was scheduled to be passing through Newark Northgate at 10.39am today on its way from London King's Cross to York where it will be displayed at the National Railway Museum, but is currently running about 15 minutes late.

Virgin Trains East Coast tweeted:"Due to eager #FlyingScotsman photographers on the track near Peterborough, delays of 15 mins are expected. Don't be silly!"

The engine, which was retired from service in 1963, has been restored over a decade for the museum at a cost of £4.2m.
