Sherwood Pines Camping Limited wins gold at Nottinghamshire Trust awards
A team at a campsite says to be ‘truly over the moon’ after winning gold at the regional tourism awards.
Sherwood Pines Camping Limited was the winner of the camping, glamping and holiday park category at the Nottinghamshire Tourism Awards 2025.
It was the first site the site enter an award category, but has been recognised by several booking engines such as Best Caravan Park 2024 (Campsites UK), Outstanding Site for 2024 (Campsites UK), Best Caravan Park 2023 & 2024 (Pitch Up), Best Customer Reviews 2025 (Pitch Up).
The campsite central operations executive, Amanda Bass said: “This award means that our efforts have been recognised by our peers and those within the tourism industry locally, and that’s really a great feeling.
“We know we always do our best to offer a great experience, but this accolade is proof that the judges think so too.
“We’re only a small team, and have been working so very hard over the last 24 months, starting the business from scratch and building up from nothing to what is now the flagship site for Forestry England Camping.”
The campsite was built in 2020 by the Camping & Caravanning Club, but due to the pandemic, it didn’t open its doors until April 2021, and only at half capacity.
In November 2022, they handed back the operation of the site to Forestry England, and all the staff who worked there were made redundant.
Forestry England approached the manager at the time, Kevin Webster, offering the opportunity to apply for the lease to operate the site as an independent and alongside an ex-colleague, Spencer Pettit, Mr Webster applied and won the tender, becoming the directors of Sherwood Pines Camping Ltd.
In December 2022, they took on all the staff that had been laid off and reopened the gates again to welcome guests.
In March 2023, Amanda Bass joined the team, implementing systems, creating a website and doing marketing for the business.
Lisa Arnold has also joined the small team as the social media and marketing co-ordinator.
In March 2023, Forestry England approached the team and asked them to run two other sites for them — Bracelands Campsite in the Forest of Dean and Postern Hill Campsite in Wiltshire, which they started operating on April 5, 2023.
The team said they felt humbled to be able to put Sherwood Pines on the map and that knowing that Forestry England trusts them means that they can grow their business further.
In the future, they are looking at expanding and improving their services.
