Activities are set to take place for the Lincolnshire And Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance in memory of a much-loved Southwell resident who the emergency service helped.

The events in the town at the weekend will remember Maddie Rodger, 50, who suffered a heart attack and died on New Year’s Eve, despite the efforts of an air ambulance crew that treated her.

A pub crawl around Southwell has been arranged for friends of Maddie from 7pm tomorrow (Friday).

Called Wear A Wig, Hat Or Beer Towel For Maddie, it will begin at the Admiral Rodney and will also take in The Bramley Apple, The Wheatsheaf and The Old Coach House.

There will be traditional pub games such as pool, darts and dominoes.

A jumble sale and cake sale will take place in the back room at the Admiral Rodney on Saturday, from 10am to 2pm.

Maddie’s long-term friend and event organiser, Ann-Marie Carlin, said: “Maddie was always such great fun. Everyone in Southwell knew her.

“She loved clothes and dressing up, and would often wear a wig or a hat.

“I did not find that out until her funeral, but she used to go to The Lion, which is now The Old Coach House, and used to make the beer towels into a hat and wear them.”

Items for the jumble sale can be left at The Wheatsheaf or with Ann-Marie, who can be emailed on annmariecarlin983@gmail.com

Both events will raise money for the air ambulance.

“Southwell is a big supporter of the air ambulance with it being such a horsey place,” Ann-Marie said.

“It is even more so now for what they tried to do for Maddie.”
