Good Samaritan walked miles to return lost wallet
A Good Samaritan teenager walked 4½ miles to return a wallet and its contents before its owner knew it was missing.
Joshua Pevler, 18, lost the wallet in Newark town centre after attending college.
It was found by someone called Chris, who knew where to take the wallet because it contained Joshua’s driving licence with his address on it.
The Good Samaritan walked from Newark to Coddington to return the lost property with its contents intact, including cash and a contactless bank card.
He knocked at the door and handed the wallet back to Joshua’s family before they even realised it had been lost.
Chris even refused a lift back into Newark until they insisted.
Now the family, who did not get his full name, would like to meet Chris again to re-iterate their thanks.
'What a wonderful young man'
Joshua’s mother, Siobhann Ward, said: “My husband was at home and there was a knock at the door from a young lad who asked if Joshua lived there.
“He handed the wallet back and we hadn’t even realised it was missing.
“It must have dropped out of Joshua’s pocket — I have the world’s clumsiest son.
“Chris used Google maps to find us and walked all the way from Newark.
“You don’t expect that these days. It was such a wonderful thing to do.
“Joshua was very lucky because the wallet had cash in it, his bank card that can be used contactless and his driver’s licence, which he needed to take his test.
“Chris didn’t even want a lift home. He just said that if it was the right thing to do.
“What a wonderful young man. We can’t thank him enough.”
'It would be nice to thank him directly'
Joshua said: “You hear of all of the bad things that happen in Newark. People forget that there are good people too.
“I walk that route a lot so know what a long walk it is. I want to say that I appreciate it.”
Siobhann took to Facebook to thank Chris in effort to trace him.
“It would be nice to thank him directly,” Joshua said.
